The Enneagram
A tool for self-understanding that supports empathy, awareness, and connection

The Enneagram is a personality typing system that offers a map for understanding how people perceive and interpret the world around them. It helps explain what shapes human motivation, emotional responses, and the habitual ways we engage with life.
At its core, the Enneagram describes nine common strategies people tend to develop early in life to help them navigate their world — especially in moments involving connection, stress, and unmet needs.
Rather than focusing on behaviour alone, the Enneagram looks beneath the surface at why we do what we do: what we pay attention to, what we avoid, and what tends to activate us when we feel stressed or threatened.
Why the Enneagram Matters — Especially in Communication
Most of us share similar values. We want connection, understanding, belonging, safety, and respect — and yet communication still breaks down. The Enneagram helps explain why.
While we share universal human needs, we don’t all go about meeting them in the same way. Each Enneagram type is shaped by core motivations, fears, and desires that quietly influence how we interpret situations and respond to others, often outside our awareness.
Because of this, two people can value the same things and still experience one another as confusing, frustrating, or even threatening. We tend to assume others are motivated the way we are, and when they aren’t, misunderstandings and reactivity can quickly follow.
As awareness grows, we become less likely to take behaviour personally, and more able to recognize the needs shaping how others respond. From this place, compassion becomes possible — for ourselves and for others — creating space for communication that respects autonomy, honours multiple perspectives, and supports cooperation.

Introduction to The Enneagram
This workshop offers a practical and compassionate introduction to the Enneagram as a tool for self-understanding and relational awareness.
Participants are introduced to the nine Enneagram types, with attention to both their strengths and their challenges, as well as how each type tends to respond under stress and grow over time. Rather than focusing on labels, the emphasis is on noticing patterns, priorities, and habitual strategies for meeting needs.
Through guided reflection and discussion, participants are supported to:
-
Understand why they tend to react the way they do
-
Recognize stress patterns and automatic coping strategies
-
See how unmet or prioritized needs shape behaviour
-
Develop greater compassion for themselves and others
-
Reduce blame and reactivity in relationships
-
Create more space for conscious, respectful communication
This workshop is especially helpful for people who want to deepen self-awareness, improve relationships, or better understand the differences that can lead to misunderstanding or conflict — even when intentions are good.
Sessions can be adapted for different group sizes, timeframes, and contexts, and are available both in person and online.
